Viver em NYC é uma boa opção?

Quando resolvi criar este blog foi para manter a minha família e os amigos informados da minha vida aqui em Nova York. Eles foram gostando dos textos e me incentivando a escrever cada dia mais. Sugerindo pautas e elogiando o jeito que eu descrevo essa experiência. Esse reconhecimento me deixar extremamente feliz e me faz pensar em escrever um livro, inclusive esta é sugestão de muitos leitores.
Esta semana recebi um e-mail de um paulista chamado Kaique. Ele ainda é estudante, mas pretende vir morar aqui ano que vem. Como muitos que me escrevem, ele queria saber como é a qualidade de vida na terra do Tio Sam, preço de coisas como aluguel, comida, etc. Curiosidades de muitos que nunca estiveram por aqui. Vou reproduzir mais ou menos o email que enviei para o Kaique.
Bom, sempre que me perguntam se Nova York é uma cidade boa para se viver, eu digo que sim. Eu realmente Amo NYC! Mas existem vários fatores por trás disso. Nasci em Maceió, capital de Alagoas. Apesar de ser uma cidade bem desenvolvida, ela é pequena. E chegou um momento na minha carreira de jornalista em que percebi que eu não conseguiria mais crescer se ficasse por lá. Foi aí que decidi mudar para São Paulo, onde morei por quase dois anos. Confesso que eu detestava São Paulo, apesar da facilidade das coisas, dos bons restaurantes, da variedade de cursos que tive oportunidade de fazer e dos grandes amigos que fiz por lá. Como sou nordestina, sofria com o preconceito da pessoas. Às vezes era só brincadeira, mas detestava ver os meus amigos imitando o meu sotaque. Sem falar na poluição, eu vivia doente. Foram várias idas ao hospital sem conseguir respirar. Enfim, quando cheguei aqui no início do ano passado senti um alívio enorme. Primeiro porque sempre quis morar fora do país. E segundo porque estava longe do lugar que não me deixava respirar direito.
Amo NYC pela educação das pessoas, pela facilidade do transporte, pelos parques, variedades de restaurantes, facilidade em ganhar dinheiro. Enfim, apesar do país ainda está em crise, ainda acho que é muito melhor morar aqui do que no Brasil. Pelo menos temos segurança e ainda conseguimos comprar coisas legais como laptop, câmeras digitais, tennis com a maior facilidade.
Eu sinceramente acho que todo mundo deve ter uma experiência fora do país. Estudei durante vários anos a língua inglesa no Brasil e realmente não é a mesma coisa. Não foi difícil me acostumar por aqui. Hoje posso dizer que estou totalmente adaptada e acho que não me acostumo mais a morar no Brasil. É estranho pensar que se voltar terei que colocar grades nas janelas da minha casa ou película no carro por segurança. Gosto daqui e não pretendo ir embora. Agora só imagino ir ao Brasil como turista.
Sobre o aluguel, não é muito barato. Mas vale ressaltar que qualquer um com um pouco de iniciativa consegue fazer dinheiro fácil aqui. Dessa forma o aluguel não fica tão caro assim. Eu pago mil e 500 dólares por um apartamento de 2 quartos. É importante não converter para o real. Se fizer isso, jamais você virá! É fácil também achar quartos em casa de família entre 400 e 800 dólares por mês. De repente até menos, dependendo da localização.
E quanto à qualidade de vida, garanto que é boa. Só se vive mal se quiser. Comida boa e barata tem em todo lugar. O ar é bom, tanto que estou aqui há mais de um ano e nunca peguei nem gripe. E olhe que sou super alérgica. E o transporte é fácil e tem metrô e ônibus para todos os lugares.

When I decided to create this blog the idea was to keep my family and friends informed of my life here in New York. They were enjoying the texts and encouraging me to write each day more. Suggesting subjects and praising the way I describe my experience. This recognition let me extremely happy and makes me think of writing a book, this is even suggestion of many readers.
This week I received an Kaique’s email from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is a student, but want to come live here next year. Like as people always write to me, he wanted to know how the quality of life here, price for things like rent, food, etc.. Curiosities of many who never been here. I’m gonna show a little bit about I wrote to Kaique
Well, when people ask me if New York is a good city to live, I always say yes. I really love NYC! But there are many factors behind it. I was born in Maceio, Brazil. Despite being a well developed city, it is small. And there came a time in my career as a journalist in that I realized that I could grow more if I stayed there. So, I decided moving to Sao Paulo, where I lived for almost two years. I confess that I hated Sao Paulo, despite the ease of things, the good restaurants, the variety of courses that had the opportunity to do and the great friends I got there. Not to mention the pollution, I was living patient. Several times to the hospital without being able to breathe. Anyway, when I arrived here early last year felt a huge relief. First, I always wanted to live outside the Brazil. And second because it was far from the place that left me not breathe.
I love NYC for the education of people, the ease way of transport, the parks, many restaurants, easy to make money. Finally, although the country is still in crisis, still think it's much better living here than in Brazil. At least we have security and we buy stuff like laptops, digital cameras, nice things with facility.
I honestly think everyone should have an experience outside the country. I studied for many years the English language in Brazil and not really the same thing. It was not difficult to get used here. Today I can say I am totally adapted and I think I don’t wanna to live in Brazil anymore. It is strange to think that if I return to put the bars on the windows in my house or black film in my car for feel safety. I like to live here and I don’t want to get out of here. Now just imagine going to Brazil as a tourist.
About the rent, it isn’t very cheap. But here anyone with a bit of initiative can make easy money. That way, the rent is not expensive as well. I paid 1.500 dollars a month for an apartment with 2 bedrooms. It is so important not to convert to the real (Brazil’s money). If you do, you never will live here! It is also easy to find rooms in family home of between 400 and 800 dollars per month. Suddenly even less, depending on location. About quality of life, assure it is sound. Have a good and cheap food everywhere. The air is good, so I am here for over a year and never get a cold. And I am super allergic. And the transportation is easy and has subway and bus everywhere.
